This programme is a
result of my experiments with expert systems in medical diagnosis.
This system was first programmed by me in Prolog in the late
nineties. I rewrote the algorithm in Java servlet for web use in
2004 (that was available from this page). Though this program was
conceptualized and implemented before the concept of ontology
& RDF became popular, the logic was based on a triple of
subject, object and predicates. The terminologies
often used by dermatologists to describe lesions are unique and
not very familiar to other specialists. In 2008, I published
a framework for a dermatology ontology called ONTODerm.
The descriptive terms in dermatology facilitate the diagnostic
process because many skin disorders have distinct features that
can be described by recognizable categories of terms. Recently
(2012) I started working on a knowledge base for dermatology
mainly for diagnostic applications. The old version of Virtual
Dermatologist is discontinued and is replaced by the 'consult'
